Accelerating IoT Businesses. Telkom Indonesia is Aiming to Sets out on Steep Road as 'Telco-Tech Hybrid'
PT Telkom Indonesia Tbk. (TLKM) strives to continue to develop IoT connectivity and platforms to drive IoT businesses.
This year, Telkom's IoT solution development will focus on the utilities, transportation and logistics sectors.
Telkom SVP Corporate Communication & Investor Relations Ahmad Reza said IoT is part of the digital platform, which is one of the digital business domains that Telkom is focusing on developing.
This business development is carried out by developing two value chains in Telkom's IoT, namely the IoT-specific connectivity business (LoRaWAN) and the development of the IoT (Antares) platform.
"The sectors that are the focus of the IoT business market include thesegments utilities, transportation and logistics," Reza told Bisnis, Tuesday (5/1/2021).
To note, LoRa / LoRaWAN is a long-distance data transmission technology for IoT devices developed by Telkom. This technology has the advantage of saving battery and runs at a frequency of 920-923 MHz.
One of Telkom's IoT solutions that have used LoRa is monitoring the water depth level, for example, in a tank. The sensor will monitor the water level periodically for later analysis. If there is a tank that is short of water, filling will be done quickly through the information sent via cellphone or PC. LoRa has a range of 5 kilometers in densely populated areas and 15 kilometers in rural areas. Its low power consumption allows battery-based IoT equipment to last more than 10 years.
Reza added that this year Telkom will also continue to create the IoT community by developing solutions and innovations with leading universities.
Telkom will also collaborate with startup companies and collaborate with various companies that have developed IoT businesses overseas.
Reza believes that the challenges faced in developing the IoT business today are a long process for implementing IoT technology.
Customers need to feel the experience and benefits offered by IoT so that amechanism is needed proof of concept (PoC) before it is commercialized in the market.
"Through the PoC stage, Telkom not only benefits from the customer side who feels the results, but also can support Telkom in developing its capabilities and company portfolio," said Reza.
